In an inaugural pop-up gallery show, Sotheby’s is showcasing the work of renowned photographer William Eggleston in Palo Alto, California, from September 16 through 18. Hosted at the Bryant Street Gallery, the seventeen color photographs come predominantly from Eggleston’s renowned “The Democratic Forest” series. They are all for sale, priced between $30,000 and $350,000. Located at 532 Bryant Street, the show is free and open to the public.
Aside from showcasing a talent who helped lend color photography credibility as an artistic medium in the ’70s and ’80s, the exhibition is also significant for Sotheby’s bringing these works directly to buyers in the Bay area, a first for the company. No doubt intrigued by Silicon Valley’s largely untapped wealth and art-buying dollars, Andrea Fiuczynski, Chairman of Sotheby’s West Coast, explained in a release, “There is a vibrant and dynamic arts community in this region and we are thrilled to bring an inaugural exhibition directly to collectors in the area.”
