LAXART, the influential alternative art space in Los Angeles, will be moving from Culver City to Hollywood in 2015. The move will mark the organization’s 10th anniversary.
The new building is a 4,300-square-foot former recording studio on Santa Monica Boulevard. (Billie Holiday, Jimi Hendrix, and Elvis Presley are some of the musicians who have recorded there.) In 2015, LAXART will also start The Occasional, a kind of anti-biennial that will stage commissioned work at various sites across L.A. The first project, which will inaugurate the new building, is by artist Shana Lutker. Whole lotta galleries going Hollywood in 2015.
