Independent, the five-year-old art fair that runs during March’s Armory Week in New York, is inaugurating a second event in the city in 2014–called Independent Projects–at its usual location in the former Dia building in Chelsea. Unlike most fairs, Independent Projects will run over two weekends, November 6 through 15, with opening days more devoted to sales followed by a period of exhibition-style viewing. (The show will coincide with the auctions in New York and include two of the world’s most powerful galleries, Gagosian and Zwirner.) The final group of participants includes 40 international galleries, all mounting solo shows of artists ranging from emerging talent (Graham Collins at The Journal gallery) to overlooked old guard (the first show of John Tweddle in New York since an exhibition at MoMA PS1 in 1999, which is being staged by Kayne Griffin Corcoran) to historical surveys (Dominique Lévy’s presentation of works and performances by Yves Klein).
