Berlin’s KW Institute for Contemporary Art announced today that New York’s DIS collective will curate the ninth edition of the Berlin Biennale, which is set to open in Germany’s capital city in the summer of 2016.

DIS, whose core members are Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Roso, and David Toro, began in 2010 as a “post-Internet lifestyle magazine” but has since branched off into all sorts of art and culture endeavors.

The group’s art credits include the “DIS Image Studio” project at 2013 at New York’s Suzanne Geiss Company, for which they worked with a large team of artists and photographers to launch an outré-minded stock photo site, and “DISown,” a store filled with artist-designed products at Red Bull Studios in New York earlier this year.

The selection committee for the 2016 biennale was made up of Elvira Dyangani Ose (lecturer at Goldsmiths at the University of London), Fulya Erdemci (curator in Istanbul, TR), Susanne Gaensheimer (director of MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt), Edi Muka (curator at Stockholm’s Public Art Agency), María Inés Rodríguez (director of Bordeaux’s CAPC Museum of Contemporary Art), Subotnick (curator at Los Angeles’s Hammer Museum), and Philip Tinari (director of Beijing’s Ullens Center for Contemporary Art).

The Berlin Biennale, which is organized by KW, began in 1998. Its previous curators include Klaus Biesenbach (the inaugural edition); Maurizio Cattelan, Massimiliano Gioni, and Ali Subotnick (2006); and Adam Szymczyk and Elena Filipovic (2008).
