An October Surprise at Paula Cooper Gallery

I really don’t want to ruin it, so if you’re going to be able to make it over to Paula Cooper Gallery’s 534 West 21st Street space in Chelsea before November 29, when it goes off view, stop reading right now. And don’t scroll down to see the image.

But whoa! Let’s continue.

There’s a huge painting by Rudolf Stingel on view right there now! Sure, it’s just one work, but it’s a beautiful, weird one, and it marks Stingel’s first solo appearance at Cooper in New York since 2009, during which time he’s had two shows in the city with Gagosian.

There’s no press release, but there is a checklist.

The painting is untitled, and dated 2014.

Happy Halloween, folks.

Stingel.
