The nation’s pavilion is being curated by Omar Kholeif, who selected Panayiotou from more than 70 proposals. “I believe that Panayiotou possesses a singular artistic vision that verbalizes a multiplicity of social, political and historical positions,” Kholeif said in a statement released to press.
Panayiotou, who was born in 1978, has been included in the 2008 Taipei Biennial, the 2008 Busan Biennial, the 2009 Athens Biennale, the 2010 Quebec City Biennial, the 2012 Liverpool Biennale, the 2010 and 2014 Berlin Biennales, and Documenta 13, in 2012. He lives in Limassol, Cyprus, and Paris.
