Earlier today the painter Cecily Brown showed off a small painting on Instagram with the note that “Small paintings will be at Maccarone May 2015.”
A spokeswoman with the New York gallery confirmed that a show is planned for that time, at its space at 98 Morton Street. (The painting in the Instagram photo was actually very small, compared to a nearby ladder or step-ladder.)
The show marks Brown’s first with Maccarone. Though she has shown at Contemporary Fine Arts in Berlin and Seoul’s Kukje Gallery, she is generally considered a Gagosian artist, having been in 18 shows with that gallery since 1999.
A spokesperson for Gagosian, though, said this was no ship jumping. “Gagosian Gallery has never exclusively represented Cecily Brown and we always look forward to working with her on future projects,” she wrote in an email.
