The U-T San Diego reports that new media artist Nina Waisman has been named an artist in residence at the Mountain View, California-based SETI Institute.

SETI, of course, stands for “search for extraterrestrial intelligence,” and the institute has close links to various start-ups like Google and NASA. It began its artist-residency program in 2011 and currently has six artists in residence: Charles Lindsay, Martin Wilner, Danny Bazo, Karl Yerkes, Marko Peljhan, and Waisman.

NASA once famously hired Laurie Anderson as its first and last artist in residence, after fiscally minded Republicans shut the program down.
