The Seattle Art Museum announced in a release today that it will soon receive the collection of Virginia and Bagley Wright, which contains over 200 works by artists like “Mark Rothko, Franz Kline, Barnett Newman, and sculptures by David Smith, Carl Andre, Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Robert Irwin… Eva Hesse, Andy Warhol, Robert Gober, Cindy Sherman, among others.”

Bagley Wright passed away in 2011 but he and his wife had been influential local arts patrons, beginning their collection when they lived in New York in the 1950s.

“This exceptional collection transforms SAM’s holdings in modern and contemporary art,” said Kimerly Rorschach, SAM’s Illsley Ball Nordstrom Director and CEO, in the museum’s news release.
