Los Angeles–based independent curator Clara M Kim has been selected by the Frieze Art Fair to organize Spotlight, the special section of London’s Frieze Masters fair that is devoted to one-person shows of 20th-century work and that will also be part of Frieze New York for the first time this year.
Kim previously served as senior curator at Minneapolis’s Walker Art Center and Los Angeles’s Gallery at REDCAT. Though Kim is starting work immediately, Adriano Pedrosa, who has overseen Spotlight since 2012, is heading up the section at Frieze New York in May. (Pedrosa was recently named artistic director of the Museu de Arte de São Paulo, which sounds like a very full-time job.)
Just a reminder that that the art calendar is looking pretty topsy-turvy in May! Because the Venice Biennale got moved up to early in the month (from its normal perch in June), Frieze New York is occurring a touch later than normal in this, its fourth edition: the public days are May 14 through 17 this year.
