The European Fine Art Fair, or TEFAF, which takes place annually in Maastricht, the Netherlands, and which is known for its top-flight galleries, top-notch canapés (150,000 were served at the preview in 2011, the last year on record) and generous beverage program (1,800 bottles of Champagne were served at that preview), announced today that it has hired Patrick van Maris, the managing director of Sotheby’s Europe, to take the place of Paul Hustinx, who had led the fair for 17 years with the title of managing director. Hustinx is retiring.
“TEFAF’s excellent reputation and its emphasis on quality and excellence have captured me,” van Maris said in a statement released to press. The big change is official in May, but Hustinx plans to stay on as an advisor until September 1. This year’s fair runs March 13 through 22 at the Maastricht Exhibition and Congress Centre.
