Darren Bader is Crowd-Funding a Lot At Christie’s

From the video.

The conceptual artist Darren Bader (whose past works have included a pretty face) has started a crowd-funding campaign that will have someone at the Christie’s Post-War & Contemporary Day Sale in London on February 12 bidding for an amount of money.

Titled _____ GBP, the project aims to put together as much money as possible (though, ideally, arbitrarily, that sum would be £310,786) through Indiegogo and then see how much that’s worth to a collector with Bader’s imprimatur. Here, there’s a fun little video that explains it all.

The catelogue description for Lot 128 is straightforward and contains a great disclaimer at the end.

The work is ____ GBP. The ____ will be defined the day before the sale.
The work will be made through
Upon sale, a certificate of authenticity will be provided.
If the lot fails to sell, the work will be donated to a not-for-profit organization

Christie’s London did not immediately respond to our request for comment.
