The Marfa, Texas alternative space Ballroom Marfa has tapped Laura Copelin, previously an assistant curator at the Santa Monica Museum of Art, to be its associate curator.

“What excites me most about Ballroom Marfa is the ambition of the artist-driven projects and commissioned installations,” Copelin said in a statement.

Coplein had been at the SMMoA for four years, and worked on shows there involving Simone Forti, Joyce Pensato, Suzanne Lacy, Tania Bruguera, and Keltie Ferris, among others.

Through February 22, Ballroom Marfa is showing films by Los Angeles artist Nicole Miller as part of the Artists’ Film International program.
