Sotheby’s has officially surpassed itself this week, recording its highest-ever total sales of contemporary art in Europe. Gerhard Richter’s Abstraktes Bild, which sold for £30.4 million ($46.3 million), contributed significantly to a grand total of £140.4 million ($214 million) over the course of two days.

Peter Doig’s vibrant portrait of a bohemian artist, Cold Blooded, painted in 2003 shortly after the artist moved to Trinidad, was the top lot of the day sale, going for £1.3 million ($1.9 million). The painting more than doubled its presale estimate of £400,000-600,000 ($614,236 -921,354).

Meanwhile, Klara Lidén’s Untitled (Poster Painting) (2008), a white monochrome made on top of thickly layered reclaimed posters, sold for a new personal record of £143,000 ($217,989).
