The Armory Show at Piers 94 and 92 in New York has announced the full line-up of special projects for its 2015 edition, which are part of the fair’s Focus section, centering this year around the Middle East. Projects at Pier 94 will include work by Lawrence Abu Hamdan, the 2015 Armory Commissioned Artist, who will debut an “audio essay” and a “specifically designed series of 5,000 potato chip packets” at the fair. In addition, Abbas Akhavan will create a “fence of cedar trees located near the VIP lounge.” Another installation, by Ahmed Mater, composed entirely of red toy gun gaps, will compare clichés of the American West with the Hadith.
Other artists with work on view will be CULTURUNNERS–an ongoing artistic project by Azra Aksamija and Stephen Stapleton–Joana Hadithomas and Khalil Joreige, Socratis Socratous, and Oraib Toukan. In addition, at Pier 92, 25 works by Iranian artist Parviz Tanavoli, from the collection of NYU, will be on view. Carlo Massoud will also have a project at Pier 92. The Armory Show will open to the public March 5.
