Rudi Fuchs will curate the fourth edition of ArtZuid, an open air sculpture biennial in Amsterdam. The selected artists–which include Ai Weiwei, Georg Baselitz, James Lee Byars, Tony Cragg, and KAWS–will each have their own podium to display ensembles of work, marking a new method of installation for the show. Fuchs will work alongside Cintha van Heeswijck-Veeger, ArtZuid’s director, and Maarten Bertheux, the event’s creator.

Fuchs is something of a curatorial legend–the former director of Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum, as well as the organizer of the seventh edition of the legendary Documenta exhibition in Kassel, Germany. This was in 1982, and Fuchs included artists like Marina Abramovic, Baselitz, Gilbert & George, as well as a number of Americans–Jean-Michel Basquiat, David Salle, but notably not Julian Schnabel, “the most famous absent artist in Documenta 7,” as Fuchs would later describe him.

ArtZuid opens May 22.
