Every year, on one beautiful day in spring, Frieze New York announces the list of almost uniformly delicious, relatively young downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn restaurants that it has brought onboard for its annual fair on Randall’s Island.
That day is today.
This year’s Frieze New York, which is open to the public May 14 through 17, will feature:
- Court Street Grocers
- Frankies Spuntino
- Marlow & Sons
- Milk Bar
- Parlor Coffee
- Prime Meats
- Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream
Many are by now old standbys at the fair, like Marlow and Roberta’s. Others are new to the game, like the beloved Lower East Side resto Dimes, which offers hearty and heartening salads (including a salade niçoise with pitch-perfect seared tuna), and Morgenstern’s, which is less than a year old, and does indeed offer some of the city’s finest ice cream, right around the corner from the New Museum. (It was the subject of a lengthy Alan Richman piece in GQ if you want to know more.)
The VIP lounge’s restaurant will be run by NeueHouse, its kitchen presided over by Chris Bradley, who’s an alumus of Gramercy Tavern and the Whitney’s Untitled restaurant.
If you don’t have lunch plans, I am going to recommend, very intensely, Court Street Grocers’ Italian Combo sandwich. Details here.
