Pictures at an Exhibition presents images of one notable show every weekday.

Today’s show: “The Q-Sides” opened this past weekend at Galería de la Raza in San Francisco and is on view until Sunday, July 5. The exhibition presents a series of photographs that reimagine the doo-wop and soul oldies anthology albums East Side Story, whose covers usually featured a images of homeboy and lowrider culture. The photographs on view are a collaboration by Vero Majano, DJ Brown Amy, and Kari Orvik, and present an alternative narrative to these covers by using queer people, who are often assumed to be excluded from lowrider culture, as their subjects.
