Today, the band Odwalla88 (featured in the May 2015 issue of ARTnews) put out a video for their song “What The,” directed by the artists Marisa Takal and Cali Thornhill Dewitt.
The song is off of the Odwalla88 album Lily 23, which was recently released on the artist Brendan Fowler’s new label DM8H943/Vague Reference in the form of embroidered patch/USB drive. The portrait-heavy video features the duo walking in Los Angeles, singing into flowers, and generally showing off the exciting aesthetic universe that they has been building, which also spills over into their individual practice as artists. Chloe Maratta currently has a show up at Ladybug House in San Francisco, and Flannery Silva recently exhibited at Springsteen in Baltimore (seen here as part of the ARTnews recurring feature “Pictures at an Exhibition”).
Directors Cali Thornhill Dewitt and Marisa Takal have been busy recently as well. Takal recently mounted a solo exhibition at SADE LA while Thornhill Dewitt has been showing his text-based art everywhere from Paris to Copenhagen. Additionally, what looks very much like one of Thornhill Dewitt’s custom sweatshirts has been spotted on who else but Kanye West.
