Bloomberg reports today that Phillips auction house has hired Hugues Joffre and Jean-Paul Egelen as new senior executives, beefing up the auction house’s contemporary and modern department.
According to a release today from Philips, Joffre–formally a senior international director at Christe’s–is the new worldwide head of 20th century art, while Egelen–formally the director of public art programs at the Qatar Museums–will become worldwide head of contemporary art.
Bloomberg calls the two hirings a “coup” for the auction house. Their re-branded auction of new art called “New Now” will be held September 17th in New York. The new department of 20th century and contemporary art’s first sale will happen during the November auctions in New York.
