Artadia announced today that LaMont Hamilton, Cauleen Smith, Laura Davis, and Irena Haiduk are the winners of this year’s Chicago Artadia Awards. The four artists, all of whom are based in the Chicago area, were selected by Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago curator Naomi Beckwith, RISD Museum contemporary art curator Dominic Molon, and Redcat director and curator Ruth Estévez after doing studio visits with this year’s ten finalists. The winners were revealed last night at an Expo Chicago party. Hamilton and Smith will receive $12,000, while Davis and Haiduk will get $5,000.
“It was a pleasure to serve on an Artadia jury in New York,” Beckwith said in a statement. “The encouragement, attention, and, of course, funds they bring to artists are key in making sure important contemporary artists are given a platform. I’m especially thrilled to serve in a capacity that brings further support to artists in my Chicago community.”
