The Whitechapel Gallery, Collezione Maramotti, and Max Mara announced the shortlist for this year’s Mara Art Prize for Women yesterday. The prize is given biannually to a United Kingdom–based female artist, who then receives a six-month residency at various locations around Italy and a solo exhibition that tours from the Whitechapel Gallery, in London, to the Collezione Maramotti, in Reggio Emilia, Italy. (A solo show for Corin Sworn, the 2013 winner, went on view at the Collezione Maramotti on Saturday.)

The panel of judges for this year’s included Iwona Blazwick, the director of the Whitechapel Gallery; Fiona Bradley, the director of Edinburgh’s Fruitmarket Gallery; Sarah Elson, a collector who started Launch Pad as a way of commissioning emerging artists who had not yet exhibited in the UK; Helen Sumpter, a senior editor and web editor at ArtReview; and the sculptor Alison Wilding.

The shortlisted artists for the sixth Max Mara Art Prize for Women are as follows:

  • Ruth Ewan (b. 1980, Aberdeen)
  • Ana Genovés (b. 1969, Madrid)
  • Emma Hart (b. 1974, London)
