Today the organizers of the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo released a list of 54 artists who will appear in the show, which will run at the city’s Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion from September 10 to December 12, 2016. In keeping with current curatorial style, this is only a partial list, and another batch of artists will be announced at a later date, bringing the grand total to about 90.

A wide variety of artists made the cut for the exhibition, which is titled “Incerteza viva” (“Live Uncertainty”), including quite a few under the age of 40, including Rachel Rose, Ebony G. Patterson, and Park McArthur. Some of the big names include Pierre Huyghe, William Pope.L, and Erika Verzutti. The full list follows below.

The curators for the biennial are Júlia Rebouças, Jochen Volz, Gabi Ngcobo, Lars Bang Larsen, and Sofía Olascoaga. They released a statement that reads: “Art feeds off uncertainty, chance, improvisation, speculation and, at the same time, it attempts to count the uncountable and measure the immeasurable. It makes room for error, for doubt and risk—even for ghosts and the most profound misgivings within all of us, but without evading or manipulating them.”
