To promote its forthcoming show of Vincent van Gogh’s paintings and drawings of his bedroom, the Art Institute of Chicago is now renting a replica of the Post-Impressionist’s room on Airbnb. The cost: $10 a night.
A blurb for the show, simply titled “Van Gogh’s Bedrooms,” explains that the bedroom is a re-creation based on van Gogh’s work, complete with strange perspectival shifts, wicker chairs, and jugs. According to the museum, the “digitally enhanced reconstruction of his bedroom allows viewers the chance to experience his state of mind and the physical reality of the space that so inspired him, while other enriching digital components bring to light significant recent scientific research on the three Bedroom paintings.”
The Airbnb page for van Gogh’s bedroom, which is located in the museum, explains that the “room will make you feel like you’re living in a painting” and promises “the experience of a lifetime.” It also, thankfully, comes with Wi-Fi and a smoke detector.
Head over to the Airbnb page to request a reservation for van Gogh’s bedroom. The Art Institute of Chicago show opens on Sunday.
