The excellent Comedy Central series Broad City had the premiere of its third season last night, and the episode culminated with stars Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer paying a visit to an opening at an unnamed gallery. “That gallery looks awfully familiar!” I thought, sitting on my couch, and a telephone call this morning confirmed it: the scene was shot at none other than New York’s esteemed Maccarone gallery. (The big giveaway was the presence of a delightful Danny McDonald sculpture of a musclebound military man sipping on a straw attached to a giant pink penis.)
The other artwork in the exhibition, sorry to say, looks pretty bleak, and the art world gets a bit of a skewering, but we all have thick skins here, so no big deal. Another fun location site: the ladies dine at a new restaurant located in the spot that was once home to the delicious and beloved ‘inoteca on Rivington Street, right across the way from Christian Berst Art Brut.
