ArtCenter/South Florida has announced the hiring of Natalia Zuluaga as its new artistic director. In her new position, Zuluaga will manage artist residencies, community outreach, and programming, while also further developing the Miami-based nonprofit’s offerings.

Prior to this appointment, Zuluaga served as the manager of exhibitions and publishing at the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation from 2007 until 2012. She has also curated exhibitions at the Judd Foundation, as well as the Hessel Museum. Zuluaga co-runs [NAME] Publications, a nonprofit art book press located in Miami.

In a statement released by ArtCenter, Zuluaga spoke about joining the center and her intentions for the position, saying:

The way that Miami’s artistic communities evolve is very different from other cities. People and things are continually moving through here, projects are often transitory in nature, making artistic relationships evolve differently. I have always been passionate about being part of the creation of the new types of cultural institutions we have all dreamed about for this city. The DNA at the heart of ArtCenter has always been about its pioneering vision to empower the artists and benefit Miami’s artistic landscape. Critical engagement between the artists, curators and diverse disciplines across the cultural sphere will be a primary goal – to target creative solutions for some of our community’s most pressing issues.
