Gagosian Is Doing a Tattoo Parlor at the New York Art Book Fair

The tattoo available from Genesis Breyer P-Orridge. GAGOSIAN

The tattoo by Genesis Breyer P-Orridge. It is already sold out.

With this year’s addition of a Gagosian-sponsored pop-up tattoo parlor, the New York Art Book Fair—happening this year at MoMA PS1 between September 15 and 18—takes one more step into becoming the publishing version of the Warped Tour.

Think about it. In place of Monster Energy Drink you have a mega-gallery like Gagosian, and instead of pop punk and screamo bands, you have tattoos designed by subcultural heavyweights like Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Kim Gordon, and Devendra Banhart.

This is obviously not fair to a deeply multifaceted event that probably has more than a little bit of something for everyone. Regardless, I still can’t help but think that a certain community of young people has come to define NYABF in recent years, and those are the folks that will probably be lining up for some ink, to be provided by Fernando Lions and Gill Goldstein of Brooklyn’s Flyrite Tattoo. Each tattoo is available in an edition of six. The price: $250.
