It feels like Jeff Koons has been a little quiet in recent months, so it was wonderful to hear this morning that he was out in Sacramento, California, today to unveil a permanent work commissioned for a plaza outside the Golden 1 Center, the new home of the Sacramento Kings NBA basketball team, which is set to open on Friday, September 30.

The work in question is a unique edition of Koons’s Coloring Book sculpture. “I’m thrilled to have Coloring Book installed in front of the new arena of the Sacramento Kings,” Koons said in a statement released to press. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to be a part of the community. I hope that the sculpture will bring pleasure to people of all generations.”

No doubt the pleasure will flow, but we’d like to pause here for a moment to note that Koons once declared (in very Trumpian fashion) that “Winning is the most important aesthetic” and that the Kings went an unimpressive 33 and 49 last season, failing to qualify for the playoffs. So here’s hoping that the Kings up their game.
