The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia has hired Cindy Kang as its first-ever assistant curator, starting February 27. She comes from New York’s Bard Graduate Center, where she is currently associate curator.

Kang was selected for the position at the Barnes for her knowledge of 19th-century French painting and decorative arts. At Bard, she helped organize a show about Neoclassical French architect Charles Percier. At other institutions, she has lectured about Impressionist art.

“As we build our curatorial team, led by Sylvie Patry, and expand our exhibitions program and collections research initiatives, Cindy’s appointment is a key step in our evolution as an institution,” Thom Collins, the executive director and president of the Barnes Foundation, said in a statement. He added that Kang’s background “makes her a wonderful fit for the Barnes.”
