Pulse Contemporary Art Fair director Helen Toomer is stepping down from her post, with Katelijne De Backer, recently the director of Art New York and Aqua Art Miami, to take her place next month. Toomer will join the Pulse Advisory Committee, while De Backer takes the reins for the next edition of the Miami-based fair as well as Pulse360, a related program that continues throughout the year.

“I look forward to using my extensive art fair and gallery experience to continue to improve and develop Pulse, and to working with the extraordinary exhibitors, many of them old friends,” De Backer said in a statement.

Prior to her work with Art New York and Aqua Art Miami, De Backer was a managing director at Lehmann Maupin gallery and, for more than a decade, executive director of the Armory Show in New York. Toomer, for her part, will be starting an artist-residency program scheduled to commence in August in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York.

The 13th edition of the Pulse Contemporary Art Fair is slated for December 7–10 in Miami Beach.
