Pinault Collection to Host ‘Personal Show’ Dedicated to Albert Oehlen, Survey of Artists as Performers

Albert Oehlen, selbstportrait mit Palette, 2005.

The Pinault Collection’s 2018 schedule will include shows devoted to Albert Oehlen and artists as actors. The Oehlen show, which a release describes as a “personal exhibition,” will open at the Palazzo Grassi, while the latter survey, titled “Dancing with Myself,” will be on view at the Punta della Dogana. Both shows begin on April 8.

Oehlen’s show at the Palazzo Grassi will feature 85 works and will be the German painter’s largest one-person show to date. Drawing on works in the Pinault Collection as well as loans from museums, the survey looks specifically at the role of music in Oehlen’s oeuvre.

“Dancing with Myself” will be organized by Martin Bethenod, Florian Ebner, and Anna Fricke. It will explore artists who appear as actors in their work and will include pieces by Cindy Sherman, Rudolf Stingel, LaToya Ruby Frazier, and more. Currently on view in a different incarnation at the Museum Folkwang in Essen, Germany, the show will be reconfigured at the Punta della Dogana, where 45 works from the Pinault Collection will be added to the exhibition.
