With the Bass Museum of Art reopening this month and the Institute of Contemporary Art putting the finishing touches on its new permanent home, this season is a big one for the Miami museum world, and this December, an art fair has a plan to help an institution in the city build its collection.

At the upcoming NADA Miami art fair, the New Art Dealers Alliance will launch what it’s calling the NADA Acquisition Gift for PAMM, a fund that allows the Pérez Art Museum Miami to acquire one work on view at the fair’s 2017 edition, which opens on December 7 at Ice Palace Studios. PAMM curators María Elena Ortiz and René Morales will be the ones choosing which work is headed to the museum’s collection.

The gift is the first its kind in the 15-year history of NADA Miami. Ticket sales at the fair will support the gift, as well as the NADA International Gallery Prize, which recognizes one first-time exhibitor that doesn’t hail from America.

“We are very appreciative of NADA’s generous gift to the museum,” Ortiz said in a statement. “With such a variety of exhibitors and works on display from around the world, I look forward to selecting an artwork that will complement PAMM’s collection, which highlights Miami’s diverse community and pivotal geographic location at the crossroads of the Americas.”
