Seattle Art Fair Names Nato Thompson Artistic Director

Nato Thompson, the director of Philadelphia Contemporary, the multidisciplinary roving art institution in the city of brotherly love, has been tapped to be artistic director of the Seattle Art Fair, which runs from August 2 through 5 at the CenturyLink Field Event Center.

The position puts Thompson in charge of site-specific installations, talks, and panels at the fair, which has occurred annually since 2015. “I’m excited to collaborate with the Seattle Art Fair to curate interdisciplinary and engaging on-site projects that speak not only to an art audience, but the wider community in which they’re situated,” the curator and writer said in a statement.

Before decamping to Philadelphia last year, Thompson was artistic director of Creative Time, the politically engaged New York public arts organization, where he organized projects with Kara Walker, Trevor Paglen, Paul Ramírez Jonas, and many, many more.

Update, February 16: An earlier version misstated the dates of the Seattle Art Fair. It is in August.
