Pace Gallery has named Whitney Ferrare as senior director in Hong Kong, where she has worked in sales for Gagosian gallery’s competing operation. Prior to that, she was at Christie’s in Hong Kong in the Asian contemporary and 20th-century art department.
Among Ferrare’s charges in her new role, beginning in September, will be to work on primary- and secondary-market sales as well as exhibition and fair programming across the Asia Pacific region. Ferrare will also lead Pace’s first participation in the Sydney Contemporary art fair in Australia, which runs September 13 through 16.
In a statement, Marc Glimcher, Pace Gallery’s president and CEO, said, “When we opened our second gallery in Hong Kong this past March, it was clear that it wasn’t the culmination of Pace’s work in Asia but, rather, the commencement of a new level of engagement across the region, and Whitney will play a pivotal role in this next phase.”
Ferrare said, “Pace is distinct for its long-held and dedicated engagement with the artists and collectors across Asia—having partnered with legendary dealer Leng Lin to be the first major Western gallery to open a space in Asia, launching Pace in Beijing in 2008. It feels particularly momentous to join Pace as the gallery celebrates its 10th anniversary in Asia, now with galleries in Hong Kong and Seoul, as well as Beijing.”
