Peter Freeman, Inc. in New York has taken on representation of the Brazilian artist Fernanda Gomes, whose sculptural work and architectural interventions often engage the space they’re in while also, as a gallery announcement states, “call[ing] into question the very nature of their presence.” The announcement continues: “Her transformation of everyday materials imparts power to that which, at first, seems barely there.”

Gomes, who lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, has a show opening tomorrow and running into October at Museo Jumex in Mexico City. Her work was featured in past editions of the Istanbul Biennial and the Bienal de São Paulo. She is also represented in Brazil by Galeria Luisa Strina, of São Paulo, and in Europe by Alison Jacques Gallery, of London.
