Paul Mpagi Sepuya is now represented by Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects, whose roster also includes Sean Duffy, Arlene Shechet, Mickalene Thomas, and Pope.L, among others. The artist will continue to be represented by Team Gallery, which has locations in New York and Los Angeles, and Document Gallery in Chicago, though he no longer works with Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York.
Sepuya is best known for his photographs about queer identity, which were featured in last year’s “New Photography” exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The Los Angeles–based artist’s pictures focus on the roles that voyeurism, eroticism, and power dynamics play in the making of photographs.
This year, Sepuya will have solo exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (opening May 17) and Team Gallery’s New York space (March 7). He has previously shown work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art in New York, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, and elsewhere.
UPDATE 01/10/2019, 1:00 p.m.: This article has been updated to reflect that Document Gallery in Chicago also represents Paul Mpagi Sepuya.
