The Joan Mitchell Foundation has announced the 32 artists who have been awarded 2019 residencies at the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans, where each participant will be given a private studio space as well as access to programming staged by the center.

Christa Blatchford, the chief executive officer of the foundation, said in a statement that the residency program brings Mitchell’s “life and vision into the present, in a community that is so incredibly rich with history and creative energy.”

This will be the sixth year that the foundation has hosted artist residencies. After this year’s program, the center will have hosted over 200 artists.

Blatchford added, “We look forward to engaging with our artists-in-residence and to seeing the exciting and unexpected ways the space and time can impact their work.”
