The Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh has named Hayley Haldeman as its interim executive director. Haldeman takes the reins at the museum from Judith O’Toole, whose last day as acting director of the museum will be January 31. Mary Navarro will serve as Haldeman’s special adviser.

Haldeman, who is an associate at the Pittsburgh branch of the law firm Jones Day, has been on the Mattress Factory’s board of directors since 2014. (She will step away from her position on the board while she is director.) Her appointment as interim executive director is the latest development in a shake-up at the museum that came following a report by Pittsburgh’s NPR station, WESA 90.5 FM, which detailed five employees’ allegations of sexual misconduct, including rape and harassment, by a coworker who was not named in the article.

That report said that one employee had told Michael Olijynk, the museum’s executive director of her allegations, and that Olijynk subsequently had the coworker undergo sexual harassment training. The coworker remained employed by the museum for “about three months” afterward, according to the report. A complaint was filed with the National Labor Relations Board, which closed its investigation of the museum’s practices earlier this month, and Olijynk was placed on “temporary paid leave” by the museum.

“I am excited to work with the Mattress Factory and the community in this transition period,” Haldeman said in a statement. “I look forward to engaging with its fantastic staff and appreciate the support of the board of directors. We all want the same thing: for this great institution to thrive.”
