As part of its 10th anniversary edition, Independent New York will donate a portion of its profits from ticket sales—both online and at the door—to the New York–based nonprofit space White Columns. The fair will take place from March 8 to 10, with an invitation-only preview on March 7, at Spring Studios in Tribeca.

The fund-raising initiative also celebrates a shared connection between the two entities: Matthew Higgs, the founding curatorial adviser of Independent, is the director and chief curator of White Columns. The art space, which was founded by a group of artists in 1970, recently relocated to 91 Horatio Street.

In a release, Independent said that, through its contribution to White Columns, it “voices its commitment to supporting emerging artists.” Among many others, Kiki Smith, Harmony Hammond, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Fred Wilson, Lorna Simpson, and Sarah Sze have exhibited at White Columns.

In a statement, Elizabeth Dee, co-founder of Independent, said, “White Columns has provided an irreplaceable community for artists, providing a home for groundbreaking exhibitions and . . . a measure of stability for artists in a city that’s changed so much over the decades. This is one small way we can come together to honor Matthew’s vision, his role in the community with White Columns, and his work in developing the curatorial vision for Independent.”
