Nature Morte, the onetime New York–based gallery that closed its doors in 1988 and reopened about a decade later in New Delhi, India, is planning a temporary return to the city of its birth.

From April 24 through May 21, it will present a one-person show of works by New Delhi–based painter Tanya Goel in a pop-up space in the High Line Nine Galleries at Gallery 5 in Chelsea. It will also appear in the Frieze New York art fair, which runs in Randall’s Island Park from May 2 through May 5.

Peter Nagy, the East Village dealer and founder of Nature Morte, told ARTnews in an email, ”For the past four years we have been participating in Frieze NY and although it provides us a great deal of exposure for our programming, we felt that it was time to invest in a more in-depth look into one of the younger artists we are working with, with a concurrent gallery exhibition.”

This will be Goel’s first solo show in New York. “As one of our rising stars,” Nagy added, “Tanya Goel’s work is part of the global contemporary art context and deserves more space than just the one or two paintings we can hang in our booth at the fair.”

Along with Goel, Nature Morte’s roster includes Gauri Gill, Bharti Kher, and Raqs Media Collective.
