The American Academy of Arts and Letters has revealed a list of its newly elected members, as well as recipients of the academy’s honors and awards. Recipients of the academy’s prizes include artist Lee Bontecou, who has been given the academy’s Gold Medal in Sculpture, and Studio Museum in Harlem director Thelma Golden, who is being given the Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts.
The artists’ work will be shown in a group show at the Academy’s New York galleries that will include paintings, works on paper, photographs, video, sketchbooks, architectural models and renderings and original manuscripts. That exhibition opens on May 23 and runs through June 16.
