Meislin Projects will be hosting an art auction to benefit The Brotherhood/Sister Sol. Works by: Carrie Mae Weems, Leonardo Drew, Xaviera Simmons, Catherine Opie, Matthew Pillsbury, Sandy Habe Fifield, and Reginald Marsh. The Brotherhood/Sister Sol is an award-winning, nationally recognized youth development organization based in Harlem that provides transformative services citywide to youth who range in age from eight to twenty-two. It offers underserved youth a homebase where they build self-esteem and take part in maturity-based ΄rites of passage΄ programming. At Bro/Sis, youth members find a nurturing and stimulating environment and receive after-school care; school and home counseling; summer camp; job training, environmental education, college preparation; employment opportunities; community organizing training and international study programs in Africa and Latin America.Bro/Sis is locally based, with a national reach, as Bro/Sis publishes assorted curricula and collections of our members’ writings; trains educators from throughout the nation on our approach; and our leadership is invited to speak and present at educational and policy convenings and conferences across the country. The auction at Meislin Projects supports the creation of a new building for Bro/Sis scheduled to break ground in June.
