Meislin Projects

Meislin Projects will be hosting an art auction to benefit The Brotherhood/Sister Sol.  Works by: Carrie Mae Weems, Leonardo Drew, Xaviera Simmons, Catherine Opie, Matthew Pillsbury, Sandy Habe Fifield, and Reginald Marsh.  The Brotherhood/Sister Sol is an award-winning, nationally recognized youth development organization based in Harlem that provides transformative services citywide to youth who range in age from eight to twenty-two.  It offers underserved youth a homebase where they build self-esteem and take part in maturity-based ΄rites of passage΄ programming.  At Bro/Sis, youth members find a nurturing and stimulating environment and receive after-school care; school and home counseling; summer camp; job training, environmental education, college preparation; employment opportunities; community organizing training and international study programs in Africa and Latin America.Bro/Sis is locally based, with a national reach, as Bro/Sis publishes assorted curricula and collections of our members’ writings; trains educators from throughout the nation on our approach; and our leadership is invited to speak and present at educational and policy convenings and conferences across the country. The auction at Meislin Projects supports the creation of a new building for Bro/Sis scheduled to break ground in June.

In conjunction with the celebration of James Goodman Gallery's 60th anniversary, we are pleased to invite you to an informal afternoon talk about the importance of the Fuller building and the historic Madison Avenue galleries that have influenced the art world. Built in 1929, the Fuller Building, a 40 story art deco masterpiece, was the first skyscraper north of mid-Manhattan and has been the home of hundreds of galleries over the years including, Andre Emmerich Gallery, Charles Egan Gallery, and the pioneering Pierre Matisse Gallery, among others. The main entrance on 57th Street is distinguished by a three-story portal embellished with a city relief and sculptures by Eli Nadelman. The exhibition on view at James Goodman Gallery will feature work by Louise Nevelson, Helen Frankenthaler, Dorothea Rockburn and other Modern and Contemporary Masters.
