Although she may make headlines primarily as a socialite, Dasha Zhukova is a major player in the Russian art world. In 2008 she founded the Garage Museum for Contemporary Art in Moscow, designed by Rem Koolhaas in what was formerly a 92,000-square-foot bus garage. (The museum has also lent its name to a biannual publication run by Zhukova.) Since then, the museum has become an important contemporary-art hub, and has gone on to start a Russian art triennial. Zhukova is on the boards of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and was a founding partner of Artsy. In 2017 she split from her husband, Roman Abramovich, who is also on the ARTnews Top 200 Collectors list.
