When asked what kind of art collection he and his wife had, Robert Toll told the Real Deal that it was “extensive and eclectic.” There is no doubt that their collection is extensive, but while it may be eclectic, the Tolls’ collection does have two specific areas of focus: French Impressionism and American art. He declined to share details about which of his pieces of art was most valuable, but Robert did say that his art collection, as a whole, was his most prized possession.

Fun fact:

When asked by the Real Deal what the best piece of advice he had ever received was, Robert paraphrased a quote from Plato’s Apology of Socrates: “It’s a wise man who knows what he doesn’t know.” Interviewer Lauren Elkies then asked him what he didn’t know. He replied, “Almost everything.”
