The Baghdad-born, London-based advertising executive and mega art collector Charles Saatchi is famed for promoting the Young British Artists and for presiding over the highly influential Saatchi Gallery, which has famously supported young and emerging artists. An avid collector since childhood of everything from popular culture, including comics and jukeboxes, he went on to amass a collection rooted deeply in American Minimalism, beginning with the purchase of a Sol LeWitt sculpture, and following up with works by Robert Mangold, Anselm Kiefer, Andy Warhol, and Julian Schnabel. He then moved on to the young Brits, helping make the careers of Damien Hirst and Marc Quinn. In 2010, Saatchi donated the Saatchi Gallery and over 200 works of art to the British public.
