The Carnegie International, which will be on view at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museum of Art from Oct. 5, 2013-Mar. 16, 2014, has released its artist list.
The trio of curators-Daniel Bauman, Dan Byers and Tina Kukielski-selected 35 artists from 19 countries. The exhibition, which has been held every 3-5 years since its inaugural outing in 1896, will feature special commissions installed in the museum’s galleries, as well as at off-site locations. This is the 56th edition. Baumann is director of the Adolf Wölfli Foundation, Museum of Fine Arts in Bern, Switzerland; Byers and Kukielski are staff curators at the Carnegie.
Artists include Taryn Simon, known for her photo-and-text-based projects; Yael Bartana, an Israeli video artist; South African photographer/activist Zanele Muholi; and Phyllida Barlow, a British sculptor whose monumental installations are enjoying new attention, including a recent show at New York’s New Museum.
