“A Haunted Capital” is a capsule show of black-and-white photographs by LaToya Ruby Frazier, a young artist who has been documenting the demise of her hometown, and the failing health of the women in her family, for over 10 years. The artist, her mother and her grandmother look at times defiant, at times defeated. Establishing shots show the dilapidated city of Braddock, Penn.—a former steel town outside of Pittsburgh—in a particularly grim light. Brief moments of tenderness come in the image of a bedside table cluttered with framed family photos or a shot of Frazier’s mother relaxing her hair in front of a mirror.
