The Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, N.Y., has hired Cathleen Chaffee as curator, effective January 2014. She replaces Heather Pesanti, who left last year to become senior curator at The Contemporary Austin.
Chaffee, who received her M.A. from the Courtauld Institute of Art and her Ph.D. at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts, has been assistant curator of modern and contemporary art at the Yale University Art Gallery since 2010. Previous curatorial experience includes her time as curatorial assistant at both New York’s Museum of Modern Art (2007-2008) and the Cleveland Museum of Art (2001-2004).
As an independent curator, she has organized exhibitions that have appeared at the Swiss Institute, The Explorers Club, and White Box gallery in New York.
Founded in 1862, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery focuses on contemporary and modern art and has a collection comprising more than 6,500 works. The museum appointed a new director, Janne Sirén, this year.
