Evincing the tactile pleasures of home life and material culture, the Brooklyn-based multimedia artist’s “Domestic Translations” presents micro installations in celebration of interior decor. Two sets of hand-painted wallpaper hanging on opposite walls—one a colorful recreation of British Neo-Classical architect John Soane’s parlor, the other a black-and-white depiction of Agee’s parents’ modernist Japanese living room—set a doubled stage. Accompanying the transportative backdrops is an array of intricate Rococo-esque porcelains and austere blocky towers. By juxtaposing styles linked with each traditional gender, Agee subverts the often-negative associations of femininity with decoration.
